history

Holzheim is likely to have originated in the 6th or 7th century as part of the Bavarian conquest. Holzheim was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the king and later emperor Heinrich II the Holy to the diocese of Bamberg on November 1, 1007. The local noble family of Holzheimer is documented for the 12th to 14th centuries. In the 15th century the Hofmark Holzheim came to the women's monastery Mittelmünster St. Paul in Regensburg and remained in its possession with interruptions until the convent was dissolved in 1588. From 1505 to 1806 the Wittelsbach line Palatinate-Neuburg was sovereign . The Hofmark Holzheim belonged u. a. from 1760 to the government councilor and Pfalzneuburg chronicler Johann Nepomuk Anton Freiherr von Reisach, later to the noble families von Silbermann and von Junker-Bigatto.

The municipality of Holzheim came into being with the Bavarian municipal edict of 1818 and initially only included the places Holzheim a.Forst and Hirschhof.

The place, the castle and the subsidiary church of St. Giles were badly damaged in three fires. The branch church was replaced by a new building at the end of the 1960s. Since 1996, measures have been taken to renew and beautify the villages, including a. Redesign of the village pond, construction of the Christ Chapel on the newly designed village square, installation of two baroque stone figures (St. Catherine and St. Johannes Nepomuk) at the location of the old Egidius Church.
