Hrabské (Hungarian Geréb - until 1907 Hrabszke ) is a municipality in the east of Slovakia with 606 inhabitants (December 31, 2019). It belongs to the Okres Bardejov , a Prešovský kraj district , and is part of the traditional Šariš landscape .
geography
The municipality is located in the north-western part of the Lower Beskids in a side valley of the Topľa , at the transition from the western to the eastern Carpathians . The state border with Poland runs across the main Carpathian ridge north of the town . The center of the village is at an altitude of 460 m nm and is 18.5 kilometers from Bardejov .
Neighboring communities are Krynica-Zdrój (more precisely Muszynka) in the north, Gerlachov in the east and south-east, Malcov in the south and Snakov in the west.
history
Hrabské was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1353 as Grabow and got its name from the hornbeams that occur there (Slovak Sg. Hrab ). It was founded a few years earlier in what was then the municipality of Malcov; the newly established place belonged to the lords of Poľanovce . In 1427, according to a tax register, no tax was due. Around 1600 there were 13 inhabited subject houses in the village, at the same time the Csáky family owned local estates . In the 19th century, Hrabské belonged to the Anhalt and Dessau families . In 1828 there were 77 houses and 588 residents who were employed as manufacturers of wooden tools, farmers, shindlers and cattle farmers.
The place in Sáros County belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary until 1918 and then came to Czechoslovakia or now Slovakia.

According to the 2011 census, Hrabské had 600 inhabitants, including 549 Slovaks , 23 Roma , seven Russians and four Czechs and four Ukrainians . 13 residents did not provide any information on ethnicity .
407 residents committed themselves to the Greek Catholic Church, 16 residents to the Roman Catholic Church, eight residents to the Orthodox Church and one resident to the Evangelical Church AB, seven residents to the Jehovah's Witnesses, two residents to the Reformed Church. 156 inhabitants had no denomination and the denomination of 12 inhabitants was not determined.
