Iselsberg-Stronach is a municipality with 610 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Lienz district in Tyrol , Austria .

geography

Iselsberg is located a little south of the Iselsbergpass on the road connection from the Lienzer Talboden to the Mölltal , the Stronach district a little away from through traffic. The northeastern municipal border is also the border with Carinthia .

Iselsberg-Stronach is located in the north (sunny side) of the Lienz valley floor, northeast of the district capital Lienz at 1117  m above sea level. A. The municipality extends over the southern and eastern slopes of the Geiersbichl to the southern slope of the Stronachkogel and covers 17.96 km², making Iselsberg-Stronach the seventh smallest municipality in the Lienz district. Iselsberg-Stronach lies on the border of two mountain groups, with the Mühlbach separating the Schober group in the west from the Kreuzeck group in the east. In the area of ​​the Schobergruppe, the municipality of Iselsberg-Stronach comprises parts of the sunny side of the Debanttal , with the municipality's share starting at around 1,600 meters or higher. The highest mountain in Iselsberg-Stronach is the Mulleter Seichenkopf ( 2918  m above sea level ) on the border with the federal state of Carinthia. In the immediate vicinity are the Mitteregg ( 2657  m above sea level ), the Törlkopf ( 2821  m above sea level ) and the peak Seichenkopf ( 2888  m above sea level ). This is followed from north to south by the Roßbichl ( 2774  m above sea level ), the Winkelkopf ( 2748  m above sea level ), the Großbodenkopf ( 2691  m above sea level ) and the Straßkopf ( 2401  m above sea level ). In the area of ​​the Kreuzeck group there are the Stronachkogel ( 1831  m above sea level ) and the Ederplan ( 2062  m above sea level ).

Waters

In the area of ​​the Schobergruppe, the municipality of Iselsberg-Stronach only has a share in the source areas of the Geißlitzenbach, the Weißenbach, the Dietenbach and the Eggbach due to the amount of its share in the Debanttal. Below the Schwarzkofel lies the Schwarzkofelsee, the only lake in the municipality. The most important body of water is the Mühlbach, which separates Iselsberg in the west from Stronach in the east and rises below the Iselsberger saddle. In the Kreuzeck group west of Stronach there are also the Gödnachbach and the Frühaufbach.

The community Iselsberg-Stronach consists of the cadastral communities Stronach in the southeastern municipality area and Iselsberg in the northwestern municipality area, with Iselsberg with a size of 1,147.65 hectares being much larger than Stronach with 648.28 hectares. In 2001, 409 people lived in Iselsberg and 161 people in Stronach. In Iselsberg, in addition to the village of Iselsberg ( 1117  m above sea level ) and the individual farms Plautz and Reiter, there are the scattered settlements of Oberberg ( 1210  m above sea level ) and Iselsberg Pass ( 1200  m above sea level ). Stronach consists of the Rotten Stronach-Säge ( 1060  m above sea level ) and Stronach Church ( 1106  m above sea level ) as well as the individual farms Deutsch, Moar and Wiesflecker. Iselsberg also includes the Iselsberger Alm, Luggeralm, Moseralm, Plautzalm, Reiteralm and Straganzalm, and Stronach also includes Ederalm, Groje, Oberegger and Stronachalm. The lowest farm is the Moarhof in Stronach at 835 m above sea level, the highest is the Plautzhof in Iselsberg at 1330 m.

In 2012, 617 people lived in the Iselsberg-Stronach community. In terms of population, Iselsberg-Stronach was the sixth smallest municipality in the Lienz district at that time. According to the 2001 census, 96.8% of the population were Austrian citizens (Tyrol: 90.6%); by the beginning of 2012, the value had only dropped insignificantly to 95.1%. 7.1% of the population were born abroad, with the majority of the non-Austrian-born residents from EU member states . In 2001 94.0% of the population (Tyrol: 83.4%) professed to be part of the Roman Catholic Church , 3.3% had no religious beliefs, 1.4% were Protestants .

The average age of the community population in 2001 was roughly the national average. 17.7% of the inhabitants of Iselsberg-Stronach were younger than 15 years (Tyrol: 18.4%), 63.5% between 15 and 59 years old (Tyrol: 63.0%). The proportion of residents over 59 years of age was 18.8%, slightly above the national average of 18.6%. As a result, the average age of the population of Iselsberg-Stronach rose significantly. The proportion of people under the age of 15 fell to 14.1% as of January 1, 2012, while the proportion of people between the ages of 15 and 59 rose to 69.9%. In contrast, the proportion of people over 59 years of age fell to 16.0%. According to marital status, in 2001 50.5% of the residents of Iselsberg-Stronach were single, 40.0% married, 6.1% widowed and 3.3% divorced.

Population development

The population of Iselsberg-Stronach initially developed much weaker than the population growth of Tyrol or the district of Lienz. The number of inhabitants rose slightly in the late 19th century, but fell again after 1880. The lowest number of inhabitants was reported in Iselsberg-Stronach in 1923 with 283 inhabitants, with which the municipality had lost around 20% of its inhabitants since 1880. As a result, the population development was largely parallel to that in the district, with the number of inhabitants gradually increasing until 1971. The community recorded the strongest growth in the 1960s. After that, after a brief slump in the 1970s, there was a stronger population growth than in the district area, with a particularly strong increase in the 1990s. The population of Iselsberg-Stronach reached its highest level to date at the beginning of 2009, when 623 inhabitants were counted. While the community's birth balance has only been slightly positive since 2002, Iselsberg-Stronach has benefited from a higher, positive migration balance .

Workplaces and employees

The 2001 census of workplaces in Iselsberg-Stronach resulted in 23 workplaces with 86 employees (excluding agriculture), 80% of which were employed. The number of workplaces had risen by eight companies (plus 53%) compared to 1991, and the number of employees rose by 34 people (65%). The most important branch of the economy in 2001 was the hotel and restaurant sector with 11 companies and 37 employees (43% of employees in the municipality), followed by health, veterinary and social services with two workplaces and 22 employees (26% of employees).

Of the 287 employed residents of Iselsberg-Stronach, only 79 people were employed in the municipality in 2001. 208 had to commute to work. Of the out-commuters, 35% had their place of work in the neighboring urban center of Lienz. Another 23% had found a job in the rest of the district, another 15 or 26% commuted to North Tyrol or another federal state, one of the residents had to commute abroad. In 2001, Spittal an der Drau also played a role among the workplaces of the residents of Iselsberg-Stronach, where 11% of all employees worked.

As the employment figures show, tourism in Iselsberg-Stronach is of great economic importance for the municipality, even though many East Tyrolean municipalities have significantly higher numbers of overnight stays. The community was able to count around 30,000 overnight stays in the 2011/12 tourism year. Since the turn of the millennium, Iselsberg-Stronach has recorded a slight increase in overnight stays for both the winter and summer seasons. The number of overnight stays in the summer season between 2000 and 2012 rose from 16,110 to 19,555 overnight stays, and in the winter season between 1999/2000 and 2011/12 from 7,669 to 9,335 overnight stays. Of the 19,555 overnight stays in summer 2012, only 12% were Austrian, 67% German and 4% Italian. There are two hotels, two inns as well as various guest houses and private room renters available to guests. Like all other East Tyrolean municipalities, the municipality belongs to the East Tyrol Tourist Association, with Iselsberg-Stronach being organized in the "Lienz Dolomites Holiday Region".

Transport and infrastructure

Iselsberg-Stronach is crossed by the Großglocknerstraße (B 107), which leads from the municipality of Dölsach through Iselsberg to the Iselsberg pass and further on to Heiligenblut on the Carinthian side. The place Stronach can be reached by a road from Großglocknerstraße and from Dölsach. Iselsberg-Stronach is connected to the public transport network by buses operated by ÖBB-Postbus GmbH . Line 5002 connects Iselsberg-Stronach around twelve times on weekdays with the district capital Lienz, the journey time being around 20 minutes and the route from Lienz via Debant, Stribach and Dölsach to Iselsberg and then via Winklern, Mörtschach, Großkirchheim and Heiligenblut becomes. The closest connection to the Drautalbahn railway network is in the neighboring municipality of Dölsach.

Iselsberg-Stronach has merged with the neighboring municipalities of the Lienz basin to form the “Lienzer Talboden waste water association”, with the municipality's sewer system being completed with the exception of a few peripheral objects at the beginning of the 21st century and 96% of the objects producing waste water being connected to the sewer and sewage treatment plant. The waste that arises in the community is disposed of by the Waste Management Association of East Tyrol (AWVO).

Since 1810 there has been regular school lessons in Iselsberg, with lessons taking place in various rooms on the local farms until 1827. Only in this year did the community erect a small wooden building that subsequently served as a school. After the children of Stronach had first attended school in Dölsach, in 1900 they were sprinkled around from Stronach to Iselsberg. It was therefore necessary to build a new school building, which, however, had to be demolished in 1957 in the course of the construction of Iselsbergstrasse. The current elementary school was occupied in 1957 and rebuilt in 2000 and integrated into the new village center. Since the school year 1953/54 the school has been divided into two classes. The children of the community commute to Nussdorf-Debant to go to secondary school, the closest grammar school is in Lienz. A kindergarten has existed in Iselsberg-Stronach since 1988. It is also located in the school and community center.

Security and Healthcare

The Iselsberg-Stronach volunteer fire brigade was founded in 1928 and was initially housed in the school building. Between 1949 and 1953 the first own fire station was built below the Guardian Angel Church. After the cemetery with the chapel of the dead was built on the site of the fire station in 1980, the fire station in the "Roanerreide" was opened in 1983 . 1983 saw the consecration of the first small fire engine , in 1990 the first tank fire engine followed , and in 1999 a new tank fire engine was purchased.
