Kevin Porter (born March 12, 1986 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player . Since July 2017 he has played for the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League in the position of the center .
Career
Kevin Porter was selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the fourth round in the fourth round of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 119th position and spent the next four years in the university and college sports league Central Collegiate Hockey Association , where he won the 2008 Hobey Baker Memorial Award for best League player could win. A little later he signed his first professional contract with the Phoenix Coyotes and played that same season for the Coyotes' farm team , the San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League , to support them in the play-offs . However, the Rampage were eliminated in the first round after seven games against the Toronto Marlies .
In the opening game of the 2008/09 NHL season against the Columbus Blue Jackets , the striker made his debut in the National Hockey League , his first goal he scored on October 30, 2008 in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins . However , he spent most of this and the following season again with the Rampage, so he came in the 2009/10 season on only four NHL games for the franchise from Arizona .
On March 3, 2010, the attacker was transferred to the Colorado Avalanche together with Peter Mueller , the Phoenix Coyotes received Wojtek Wolski in return . After four games for Colorado's farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL, Porter was promoted to the NHL team, where he spent the rest of the season.
In July 2012, Porter signed a two-year contract with the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent . In October 2013 he was sent to the Rochester Americans via the Waiver in the AHL . After two years, he left the Sabers and joined the Detroit Red Wings in July 2014 . There it was used exclusively at the Grand Rapids Griffins in the 2014/15 season , before moving to the Pittsburgh Penguins in July 2015 , which will initially use it at the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . During the 2015/16 season, Porter played 41 regular-season NHL games for the Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup at the end of the playoffs , so Porter reached the limit to be immortalized on the trophy.
Subsequently, however, the attacker received no further contract in Pittsburgh and thus returned to the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent in July 2017 . There he was only used by their farm team , the Rochester Americans , before he signed a one-year contract limited to the AHL in the summer of 2019.
International
The attacker made his first appearance for the Canadian national ice hockey team in 2003 at the U18 Junior World Championship , where the team narrowly missed a medal and Russia had to admit defeat in the game for third place. At the U18 Junior World Championship the following year, he and his team won the silver medal after they lost again to the Russians in the final. He also ran for his country at the U20 World Junior Championships in 2005 and 2006 . The Americans finished fourth in both tournaments. He has so far been denied a role in the men's team.
