Klaus Klaffenböck (born July 24, 1968 in Peuerbach ) is an Austrian motorcycle racing driver and team owner.

Career

According to his own statements, Klaus Klaffenböck began his sporting career with the fact that, as an Austrian, he wanted to do something other than skiing. So he started with skibob and was able to win a world cup. After that, he switched to motorcycle carriage races . In 2001 he was able to celebrate the world title in this category together with his co-driver Christian Parzer in an LCR - Suzuki .

In 2002 Klaus Klaffenböck founded the "Team Klaffi". From 2003 they started in the Supersport World Championship , in 2005 he helped Max Neukirchner to start his career in this class in the World Championship. In 2005 and 2006 they competed in the Superbike World Championship , and in the second year they even managed to win a race and finish sixth with the Brazilian veteran Alex Barros . For the 2007 season , Klaffenböck could not find enough sponsors to keep racing operations going and decided to withdraw his team for the time being.

Isle of Man TT 2010

On June 5, 2010 Klaus Klaffenböck celebrated his first victory at the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man together with his local co-driver Daniel Sayle . The two made with their LCR Honda in the first of two team runs after four rounds on the nearly 38 Miles long Snaefell Mountain Course , the local hero Dave Molyneux / Patrick Farrance with a lead of almost three seconds in second place.

Five days later, on June 10, 2010, Klaffenböck / Sayle also won the second TT sidecar race. He benefited from the failures of the meanwhile leading Dave Molyneux and Simon Neary. At the beginning of the last of the three laps, the duo Klaffenböck / Sayle was 10.15 seconds behind John Holden / Andrew Winkle in second place. The Austrian kept catching up and relegated the British to second place by 1.12 seconds at the finish.

Withdrawal from racing

After the 2011 season, Klaffenböck ended his active career. Since then he has offered motorcycle tours to the TT and runs a catering service for Suzuki during the races for the Superbike World Championship . Kaffenböck has lived on the Isle of Man since 2012 and only visits his old home in Wels occasionally. As a racer he takes only at the classic car race ( Engl. Classics) at the Tourist Trophy in part.
