List of natural monuments in the Kassel district

The list of natural monuments in the district of Kassel names the individual lists of the natural monuments located in the respective cities and communities in the district of Kassel .

In the Kassel district, trees are currently protected as natural monuments at 186 locations. Most of these are single trees, but there are also a number of groups of trees, circles and rows of trees.

Furthermore, 57 areas are protected as so-called area natural monuments. These are often geological features, so-called geotopes , and there are also wetlands , grasslands and field trees .

Systematics of the cadastre

The identification of the individual natural monuments (e.g. 6.33.021, sessile oak near Sand) is made up of:
6 = Kassel
administrative district 33 = Kassel district
021 = consecutive number between 001 and 999, whereby individual blocks of numbers are assigned to the respective cities and communities in the district.

The official cadastre of natural monuments in the district of Kassel - unlike the cadastre of natural monuments in the city of Kassel - sometimes combines several trees at one location. This means that an identifier can refer to several trees that are adjacent, but not necessarily next to each other. The assignment is therefore not one-to-one, for example 6.33.435 refers to 3 trees (1 maple, 1 linden, 1 yew with different planting years) that are distributed in the Abbey District of Oberkaufungen.

Age-determined trees

In 2005, some selected trees in the Kassel district were scientifically dated based on annual ring analyzes (cf. dendrochronology ). For this purpose, a drill core with a diameter of 5 mm was removed with an incremental drill and examined. Outwardly intact-looking tree trunks also turned out to be more or less hollow, which made it difficult to determine the exact age. By comparing with largely complete strains, however, values ​​were determined that can be considered comparatively exact.
