Matthieu Vaxivière (born December 3, 1994 in Limoges ) is a French racing driver . He competed in Formula V8 3.5 from 2014 to 2016 . He has been part of the GP3 series since 2017 .

Career

Vaxivière began his motorsport career in karting . He then took part in some races in the Trophée Andros ice racing series . In 2010 he started in the Mitjet Series , a series of cars powered by a motorcycle engine. He finished the season in ninth place.

In 2011 Vaxivière switched to formula racing and competed in the French F4 championship. With three wins and a total of ten podium finishes, he decided the championship for himself. In 2012 Vaxivière received a cockpit at Tech 1 Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup . With a tenth place as the only point placement, he finished the season in 29th place overall. In addition, Vaxivière took part in four Alpine Formula Renault events for Tech 1 Racing . He achieved a podium placement with a third place. In the overall standings he was 14th. He also completed two races in the French GT championship. In 2013 Vaxivière stayed with Tech 1 Racing in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup. At the season opener in Alcañiz , he won both races from pole position and also drove the fastest lap in both races. In the further course of the season, however, Vaxivière was not able to build on these results and he only finished in the points in two other races. While his teammate Pierre Gasly won the championship, he was tenth overall. Vaxivière also competed for Tech 1 Racing at two Alpine Formula Renault events. He also made four guest starts in the French Porsche Carrera Cup . He crossed the finish line first and was always in the top 3.

2014 changed Vaxivière in the Formula Renault 3.5 , where he became a cockpit in by Charouz Racing System managed Lotus received team. In an accident in Monte Carlo , he suffered a vertebral fracture, because of which he was canceled for two events. After his return, he achieved second place at the Nürburgring . Vaxivière then managed six more points, including another podium. In the overall ranking he reached eighth place. In addition, Vaxivière took part in a race in the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) and two races in the French GT championship in 2014 . In 2015 , Vaxivière contested his second season in Formula Renault 3.5 for Lotus. He won a race each in Alcañiz, Spa-Francorchamps and Spielberg . With 234 to 307 points he was second overall behind Oliver Rowland . He also made two guest starts in the Alpine Formula Renault.

In 2016 , Formula Renault 3.5 was renamed Formula V8 3.5 and Vaxivière switched to the newly entered racing team SMP Racing , which was looked after by AF Corse . He decided a race for himself in Spa-Francorchamps and Spielberg and finished the season in sixth place in the drivers' championship.

In 2017 , Vaxivière took over the cockpit of DAMS driver Santino Ferrucci from the fourth race weekend of the GP3 series in Hungary .
