Mikhail Alexandrovich Sergatschow ( Russian Михаил Александрович Сергачёв ; English transcription: Mikhail Alexandrovich Sergatchev or Sergatchov * 25 June 1998 in Nizhnekamsk ) is a Russian ice hockey player who, since June 2017 the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League is under contract and for this plays on the position of defender .
Career
Sergachev comes from the youth department of Neftechimik Nizhnekamsk , the ice hockey club in his hometown. Between 2012 and 2014 he played for the junior team of HK Vitjas from Podolsk , at the same time he completed several international tournaments for the Russian junior national team from 1998 ( Rossija 98 ). In the 2014/15 season , the 16-year-old defender was already represented in the highest Russian junior class, where he played for Irbis Kazan in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga . After being selected in the CHL Import Draft in the summer of 2015 in sixth overall position by the Windsor Spitfires from the Ontario Hockey League , the Russian promptly moved to the North American continent and was active for the Spitfires in the 2015/16 season . In the course of the game year he played 67 games and collected 57 scorer points . The rookie secured the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the best defender in the league with his performances at the end of the season and was also appointed to both the First All-Star and First All-Rookie teams. Then Sergachev was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2016 in ninth overall position by the Canadiens de Montréal from the National Hockey League .
The Canadiens signed their draft election back in July 2016. Thanks to his good performance in the pre-season training camp, he first earned a place in the squad of the traditional club at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and made his competitive debut on October 13, 2016. After three NHL appearances, however, the Canadiens sent him back to the Spitfires in the OHL at the end of October, where the defender should develop his game. With the Spitfires Sergachev won the Memorial Cup at the end of the season and was elected to the all-star team of the tournament.
On June 15, 2017, the Defender was finally in exchange for the Canadian striker Jonathan Drouin to the Tampa Bay Lightning made. If Sergachev had played fewer than 40 NHL games during the entire 2017/18 season , the Lightning would also have received a second-round vote in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft and the Canadiens a six- round vote in the same draft. This condition was not met in the episode, however, as the Russian played almost all games for Tampa with 79 games and scored 40 points.
International
Sergachev represented his home country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 in November , the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival 2015 , the U18 Junior World Championships in 2015 and 2016 and the U20 Junior World Championship in 2017 . The defender was able to win the gold medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival and the bronze medal at the 2017 U20 World Junior Championships. He also finished the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival as the best goal preparer of the tournament.
