Kobenz is a market town in the Murtal district in Styria with 1907 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).
geography
The community is located north of the Mur , both on the eastern edge of the Aichfeld and in the south of the Seckau basin , on the foothills of the Seckau Alps ( Seckauer Zinken , Maria Schnee , Tremmelberg ).

history
As early as 860, the place was first mentioned as "ad Chumbenzam" in the royal document of Ludwig the German . In 1151 the parish was awarded to the then Provost Seckau by the Archbishop of Salzburg, Eberhard I.
On July 8, 2007 Kobenz was named the 125th market town in Styria. In 2012 the project “change of street names” was completed, since December 1st, new addresses and the new postcode 8723 are valid for the entire municipality.
Since 2004 the municipality of Kobenz has had the official name "Healthy municipality - Livable municipality".

Together with Lobmingtal, Gaal, Seckau, Spielberg, St. Marein-Feistritz and Zeltweg, the municipality forms the tourism association “Tourismus am Spielberg”. Its seat is in Spielberg.
