Okushiri ( Japanese 奥 尻 町 , - chō ) is a city on the island of the same name in Okushiri County in Hiyama Sub-prefecture ( Hokkaido Prefecture ) in northern Japan .
history
On July 12, 1993 , a strong tsunami (value on the Richter scale : 7.8) occurred here , killing 165 residents.
