The competition over 200m individual medley women at the 2012 Olympics in London was on 30 and 31 July 2012 at the London Aquatics Center held. 34 athletes took part.

There were five preliminary runs. The 16 fastest swimmers of all heats qualified for the two semi-finals that were held on the same day. The eight fastest swimmers in both semi-finals qualified for the final.

The winner Ye Shiwen was able to improve the Olympic record twice in this competition.
Shiwen, who also became Olympic champion over the 400 meter distance (July 28, 2012) is the sixth swimmer, the fifth in a row to win the double over the 200 and 400 meter medley.
