Route of industrial culture - Duisburg: industrial culture on the Rhine
Duisburg: Industrial Culture on the Rhine is the name of the third themed route on the Industrial Culture Route . In contrast to route 1 of the industrial culture, which deals with the Duisburg-Ruhrorter ports and the inner port of Duisburg , this route shows many destinations oriented towards the Rhine and widely scattered, from Hüttenheim or Bockum in the south to Walsum in the north . Points on the left bank of the Rhine such as in Rheinhausen or Homberg are also taken into account as well as points on the right bank of the Rhine to Wedau , almost to Mülheim or Neumühl . Duisburg has incorporated many surrounding cities in the course of its history .
As the earlier advertising slogan of the city of Duisburg and quoted in the route : City of Mining and Mining already suggests, most of the stops have something to do with the mining industry , be it through the extraction of raw materials, through the processing of coal , iron and steel , or transport by water , on the rails and on the road, the places of residence of the workers or the social commitment of industrial families. But also the production of food and luxury goods, sewage treatment plants and the Emscher , chemical plants and modern landmarks are mentioned in the route and make it one of the most varied of the 25 themed routes.
The route starts at the visitor center in the Duisburg-Nord landscape park, where visitors can obtain information material. There are also two anchor points, the inner harbor and the Museum of German Inland Shipping. Not all points of the route can be visited, this is part of the concept of the operator, the Regionalverband Ruhr .
At the end of 2008, the RVR changed the route in terms of content and name. These changes are shown in italics.
