German Chess League 1976/77

The 1976/77 season was the third season of the four-track chess Bundesliga .

mode

Eight teams each played a simple round-robin tournament in the North, West, Southwest and South seasons . The four season winners qualified for the final round, which was held centrally over a long weekend, the seventh and eighth of each season were relegated. The North relay comprised the regional associations of Berlin, Hamburg, Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Weser-Ems, the West relay included the Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia regional associations, the Southwest relay consisted of the Baden, Middle Rhine, Palatinate and Saarland regional associations during the relay South associations of the state associations Bavaria and Württemberg-Hohenzollern belonged. The number of team points decided on the placement, in the event of a tie, play-off fights were played for group victory and relegation, otherwise the number of board points decided. In the final round there were generally no playoffs played, but in the event of a tie based on team points, the number of board points decided.

Preliminary round

North

The chess department of the rowing club Favorite Hammonia and Tempo Göttingen , which was founded in 1972, were promoted to the North Staffel . While the Hamburger immediately took second place, Göttingen had to relegate immediately, as did Lasker Steglitz . The Delmenhorster SK tied against their fellow competitor Favorite Hammonia, but won all other competitions, while Favorite Hammonia was defeated by the bottom Lasker Steglitz, so that the Delmenhorster qualified for the third time in a row for the finals.

PSV / BSV Wuppertal and SC Gelnhausen were promoted to the West season . While the Wuppertaler achieved relegation, Gelnhausen had to relegate immediately, as did last year's second SK Münster 32 . The victories achieved by Klaus Klundt against Mainz and Münster were withdrawn from SC Gelnhausen , as they had competed in team fights in Austria in the same season and such multiple engagements were not allowed at the time.

Königsspringer Frankfurt was able to win all competitions and qualified for the finals.

southwest

The Karlsruher Schachfreunde and PSV Neustadt were promoted to the southwest season . While the Karlsruher were able to hold their own in the Bundesliga, Neustadt was relegated directly again, together with SG Saarbrücken . The final round qualification was hard fought this time, in the end SC Kettig was able to prevail just ahead of SK Heidelberg , SK Frankenthal and SG Porz .

The TB Erlangen and SC Bad Cannstatt were promoted to the south season . While the Erlanger achieved relegation, the Cannstatter had to relegate together with Grundig Nürnberg . The German champions SC 1868 Bamberg gave only one draw and clearly achieved the relay victory with a four point lead and thus qualification for the finals.

Finals

The final round took place in Weißenthurm from June 3rd to 5th . SC 1868 Bamberg was able to defend its title from Königsspringer Frankfurt, Delmenhorster SK and SC Kettig.
