The Scottish League Challenge Cup will be played for the 29th time in 2019/20 . The Scottish football competition, which is officially held as Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Cup , starts on August 6, 2019 and ends with the final on August 28/29. March 2020. 58 clubs take part in the competition: 30 clubs from the Scottish Football League , 12 U-21 teams from the clubs from the Scottish Premiership , four clubs each from the Highland and Lowland Football League , and two clubs each from the Northern Irish NIFL Premiership , Irish League of Ireland , Welsh Premier League and English National League . Defending champions Ross County , who beat Welsh club Connah's Quay Nomads in the final last year , will be represented by their U-21 team.
