Spyckerscher See

The nature reserve Spyckerscher See and Mittelsee is a nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . With the two lakes mentioned and the adjacent bank and shallow water areas, it covers an area of 344 hectares. The designation took place on November 5, 1990 with an extension in 1994. Surrounding places are Glowe in the northwest and Spyker in the east. The purpose of protection is to preserve a very scenic section of the North Rügen lagoon landscape , which is a habitat for numerous animal and plant species.

The areas border directly on the Great Jasmunder Bodden .

The nature reserve is protected under EU law as part of the FFH area Nordrügensche Boddenlandschaft and the bird sanctuary Binnenbodden von Rügen

The nature reserve is in good condition due to the discontinued uses. Disturbances come from anglers and surfers. The land is owned by the State's Environmental and Nature Conservation Foundation.

A hiking trail leads through the area.

history

The areas of the nature reserve were decisively shaped by the last ice age . As bays, they belonged to the excavations that form the Great Jasmunder Bodden today. In the following millennia, the bays were more and more cut off from the lagoon by coastal compensation processes , so that the two lakes were created. They are still connected to the Bodden via narrow tributaries. The lakes silted up with a wide belt of reed beds. In the original data sheet from 1836, the shallow water areas are shown as fords . From 1861 a polder was created in the area of the central lake in order to make the bank areas usable as pastures until the 1940s. The ground moraine areas in the northwest were used for military purposes in the middle of the 20th century and were heavily modified. After it was abandoned in the 1950s, large stocks of sea buckthorn formed there.

Flora and fauna

Numerous habitats can be found in the nature reserve. The biotope spectrum ranges from pioneer vegetation and semi- arid grassland with development to warmth-loving bushes on the one hand and sandy grassland in the area close to the ground on the other hand over abandoned salt marshes and various reeds and alder quarries to the shallow waters of the two lakes and the adjoining Bodden area.

Species that are particularly protected, threatened with extinction and rare for Rügen are kingfisher , adder , grass snake , sprout , sparrowhawk , water frog , carnation , dyer's sip , upright bristle , common sickle carrot . Common buzzard , red kite , marsh harrier and osprey hunt in the area, and various species of geese and the crane rest .

The lakes are important spawning waters for perch , rudd , tench , pike and lead . They are also habitat for eels , flounder and ruffle .
