history
Archaeological excavations have already proven the presence of humans in the Paleolithic . Finds of 18,000–28,000 year old mammoth tusks , animal bones and tools prove that Stone Age people once cut up hunting prey here. Graves have been found from the time of the Bell Beaker Culture and traces of settlement from the Bronze Age .
Drasenhofen was mentioned for the first time in 1190 under the name Taisenhof , which was common until the 16th century .
From the 14th century, the Fünfkirchner family acquired the first goods in Steinebrunn. At the end of the Middle Ages, the aristocratic family rose to become the most powerful landlords in the northern Weinviertel.
The Brünnerstraße , which leads from Vienna via Drasenhofen to Brno , is characteristic of the place and its history . At the end of May 1945 the place was the first stop in Austria for the Brno death march , which began on May 31, 1945 and in which the German citizens of Brno were driven out of their city. Thousands did not survive. 186 of the dead were buried in a mass grave in the local cemetery.
Population development
In the 20th century the community lost almost two thirds of the population. The decline was stopped at the turn of the millennium and the migration balance has been positive since then .
