history
Early history
Überkingen was first mentioned in a document rather late in 1258. An Albdreh de Vberchingen appears as a witness in a deed of donation in favor of the Nördlingen hospital . The originally Alemannic settlement was then called Urbaricho , which indicates its founder Urbarchio. In the 13th century the name changed to Ubrichingen. The place then belonged to the Counts of Helfenstein . In 1396 the village, now called Ueberchingen, passed into the hands of the Free Imperial City of Ulm .
20th century
Since 1927, the municipality has been allowed to use the addition " bath ". The community has been a “rated spa” since 1992 - the first in the Göppingen district.

Religions
Bad Überkingen has been evangelical since the Reformation . There are Protestant parishes in Bad Überkingen and Unterböhringen. The nearest Roman Catholic church is in Geislingen an der Steige . Every Saturday there is a Catholic service in the Protestant church, alternating every fortnight.
The church in Bad Überkingen is the St. Gallus Church and was built around the year 1470 - and so it has remained almost unchanged to the present day.
The ceiling painting and the gallery painting belong to the greatest “treasure” of the church. The ceiling painting dates from 1580 and was designed by the artists Bonsdörfer from Konstanz and Henneberger from Geislingen. Approx. 60 years later the gallery painting was done.
Pulpit, baptismal font and altar were donations to the church.
The pulpit is a gift from Obervogts von Krafft in 1738 - the font was donated by Veronika von Krafft in 1733; the altar in the St. Galluskirche is the last donation of this kind to the church; this was bequeathed to the church in 1900 by Jakob Ziegler from Stötten (Göppingen district).
