history
Artifacts from the 5th and 6th centuries have been discovered in honeycombs . This includes a fibula , a belt buckle and various glass vessels.
In the Middle Ages , Waben was an important trading and fishing port . However, over the centuries it silted up. Today it is used as a leisure harbor.
In 1793, during the French Revolution (1789–1799) , Waben received the status of a municipality and became the capital of a canton . In 1801, the municipality received the right to local self-government through the administrative reform under Napoleon Bonaparte (1769-1821) and was incorporated into the canton of Montreuil . It was not until 1991 that it was allocated to the then newly formed canton of Berck.
