Werner Salzmann (born November 5, 1962 ; resident in Eggiwil ) is a Swiss politician ( SVP ).

Life and work

From 1969 to 1979 Salzmann attended primary and secondary schools in Wabern and Fraubrunnen . From 1979 to 1980 he completed an agricultural apprenticeship in Chavannes-le-Chêne . From 1980 to 1982 he attended the year school Rütti in Zollikofen and graduated with the federal proficiency test as a farmer . From 1982 to 1984 he began his military career as a soldier in the Swiss Army Recruit School and was promoted to lieutenant in the infantry . In 1984 he began studying at the University of Agriculture in Zollikofen and graduated in 1987 as an agronomist FH. In 1989 he was promoted to first lieutenant in the infantry. In 1992 he was promoted to captain of the infantry. From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a product manager and sales representative at Eric Schweizer Samen AG in Thun . From 1993 to 1995 he was a technical clerk in the Agriculture Department of the Canton of Aargau in Aarau . From 1995 to 2007 he worked as an agricultural tax expert SV Kanton Bern in Burgdorf . In 2000 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel (battalion commander) in the military and to colonel in 2006 . In 2007 he was promoted to Chief Agriculture Expert in the Canton of Bern and became President of the Agriculture Working Group of the Swiss Tax Conference SSK.

Political career

From 1988 to 1996 he was president of the SVP Mülchi section . From 2003 to 2007 he was on the board of the SVP Fraubrunnen District Association. From 2009 to 2010 he was the President of the Committee against the Federal People's Initiative “For Protection against Armed Violence” . Since 2012 he has been party president SVP Canton Bern. Since 2013 he has been a board member of SVP Region Fraubrunnen and since 2014 board member of SVP Mittelland-Nord. He was elected to the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2015 . In the 2019 elections , Salzmann was elected to the Council of States of the Canton of Bern in the second ballot.
