As in the previous season, twelve teams took part in the first division, which played the main round in a joint group. After the first and second leg, the total number of games per team was 22 games. Then the first six teams played the champions, and the remaining six teams played for relegation. Champion became the winner of the final round. The last two teams in the relegation round were relegated directly to the 2nd division. Both the final and the relegation round took place in a two-legged manner, so that each team played ten more games. The points from the main round were taken over in both groups.
The winners of the four second division groups, Slavoj České Budějovice , Motorlet Prague , Královopolská Brno and TJ Dukla Košice played in a round trip for admission to the first division for the following season. Dukla Košice and Motorlet Prague prevailed with eight and seven points, respectively, ahead of České Budějovice (seven points) and Brno (two points) and were accepted into the first division.
