Adrenaline Mob is an American hard rock - / heavy metal - Supergroup from New York . The band, founded in 2011, consists of current and former members of the bands Dream Theater , Symphony X and Disturbed . The band is under contract with Century Media and has released three EPs and three studio albums to date .

history

Foundation and first EP

Singer Russel Allen

In the early 2000s, singer Russell Allen from the band Symphony X and then dream theater drummer Mike Portnoy met. Both musicians often talked about starting a project together. In 2010 Allen recorded his second solo album. His guitarist Mike Orlando presented Allen with some of the songs he had written during the recording. Both decided to put a band together for this music. When Russell Allen found out that Portnoy, who had just dropped out of Dream Theater, was free, Allen called him and passed the song ideas on. Portnoy liked the music and agreed to participate.

Originally the band was supposed to be called Adrenaline Fueled Junkies . However, it turned out that there was already another band with the same name. The musicians stuck to the word adrenaline because, according to Portnoy, the band would be between AC / DC and Aerosmith in the iPods and iTunes of the listener . At Portnoy's suggestion, the word mob was added because the musicians felt like a gang together. The band line-up was completed by the former Stuck-Mojo and Fozzy guitarist Rich Ward and the bassist Paul Di Leo .

In June 2011 the band played their first concert in New York. Two months later they released their debut EP , titled after the band , which contains a cover version of the Black Sabbath song The Mob Rules . Adrenaline Mob also played as the opening act for the band Godsmack . The EP produced by Mike Orlando was sold about 1,800 times on iTunes in the first week after its release and reached number 13 on the Top New Artist Album Charts .

Omertà (2011/12)

Ex-drummer Mike Portnoy

In the summer of 2011, the band recorded their self-produced debut album Omertà , which was released through Elm City Music in North America on March 13th and Century Media in Europe on March 16, 2012. Mike Portnoy explained the delay by saying that record labels need three months' lead time to promote an album well . Also, "no record company would release an album in October unless it's about Madonna or Lady Gaga ". The album includes a cover version of the Duran-Duran song Come Undone , on which Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale can be heard as a guest singer.

In January 2012 Ward and DiLeo left the band because both musicians had scheduling difficulties with their other musical projects. As a replacement John Moyer was brought into the band by the band Disturbed, which at that time was out of ice for an indefinite period of time. Mike Orlando explained in an interview that the band will continue as a quartet for the time being and will not bring a second guitarist into the band. Omertà entered the US album charts at number 70 and was sold around 6,600 times in the first week of sales in the US . In May 2012, the band went on a co-headlining tour through North America with Kill Devil Hill , before a European tour followed. Among other things, the band performed at the Graspop Metal Meeting .

Covertà and Men of Honor (2013/14)

Ex-bassist John Moyer

In March 2013 the band released the EP Covertà , which contains eight covers of the band's favorite songs. The bands covered include Dio , Van Halen , The Doors and Led Zeppelin . This was followed by a North American tour with the band Nothing More and a South American tour with the band Halestorm . At the beginning of June 2013, Mike Portnoy announced that he was leaving, as there were scheduling conflicts with his other projects ( Flying Colors and The Winery Dogs ).

Even without a drummer, Russel Allen and Mike Orlando began songwriting for their second studio album. The recordings for it began in October 2013. As a replacement for Mike Portnoy, the band hired the drummer AJ Pero , who is also a member of the band Twisted Sister . At the same time, the band signed a contract with Century Media for North America. The release of the second album Men of Honor took place on February 18, 2014 in North America and three days later in Germany. In contrast to previous releases, the album does not contain a cover version.

Men of Honor sold about 3,600 copies in the United States in the first week after its release and peaked at number 99 on the US album charts. At number 76, the band made it into the German album charts for the first time . In April and May 2014 the band went on a North American tour supporting Avenged Sevenfold and Hellyeah . On the way to a concert in Canada , the musicians were involved in a traffic accident. No one was seriously injured, but all of the tape equipment was destroyed.

Dearly Departed (2014 to 2016)

Ex-drummer AJ Pero

At the beginning of August 2014, bassist John Moyer announced on Twitter that he would not be present at the concert dates scheduled for September 2014 because he wanted to carry out several album productions during this time. His band mates were "shocked" by Moyer's announcement and explained on Facebook that Adrenaline Mob would play the concerts and look for a replacement. Moyer then stated that he had informed his bandmates about his plans weeks ago. Erik Leonhardt, who is also a member of the band Tantric , was introduced as Moyer's successor in September 2014 .

On February 10, 2015, the band released the EP Dearly Departed , which includes cover versions of Pat Travers , the Charlie Daniels Band , Black Sabbath and Queen as well as acoustic versions of previously published tracks. In Europe the album was only released digitally. Drummer AJ Pero died in his sleep on March 20, 2015 at the age of 55. Just one day later, the band performed at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville , New Jersey . Mike Portnoy and Chad Szeliga (ex- Breaking Benjamin ) were on drums . As a guest, Twisted Sister guitarist Jay Jay French was there to play the Twisted Sister song You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll . The band played the tour with Chad Szeliga to the end.

We the People (since 2017)

After the tour was over, the musicians initially went their separate ways, so it was uncertain whether the band would continue. It was only after a Century Media employee contacted Russell Allen by phone that it was decided to continue running Adrenaline Mob. In October 2016, the band announced the release of their third studio album in early 2017. Jordan Cannata, who was previously mainly active as a studio musician, was presented as the new drummer. In addition, the band introduced a new bassist, David Zablidowsky (formerly Trans-Siberian Orchestra ). The release of the third album We the People took place on June 2, 2017. In summer 2017, two North American tours followed. Adrenaline Mob were initially accompanied by the band The Wild and in the second part by the bands Righterous Vendetta and Dark Sky Choir .

On the afternoon of July 14, 2017, the band was involved in a devastating traffic accident on Interstate 75 near Micanopy . The group was on their way from Biloxi in the state of Mississippi to St. Petersburg , Florida, where the band was supposed to perform in the evening and had to park the tour bus on the roadside because of a flat tire. The bus was then hit by a veering semi- trailer. Bassist David Zablidowsky died at the scene of the accident. Six other people were injured, three of them in critical condition. Tour manager Jane Train succumbed to her injuries on August 23, 2017. In March 2019, Mike Orlando stated in a radio interview that he did not know whether the band would go on at all.

style

Former drummer Mike Portnoy stated in an interview that the music of Adrenaline Mob is very different from that of Dream Theater and Symphony X and has absolutely nothing to do with progressive metal . He described the band's music as forward-going metal . Singer Russell Allen described the music of Adrenaline Mob as rock music with a modern sound. As a clue, he cited a connection between Rob Zombie and Black Label Society and Disturbed with Ronnie James Dio as the singer. Guitarist Mike Orlando named the bands Godsmack and Shinedown as further clues for the sound of Adrenaline Mob.
