Origin and meaning
The name Arthur is of Celtic origin and stands for Artaios , the " bear ". Alternatively, the name is derived from the Roman family name Artorius . The derivation from Nordic Arnthor ("Adler" and " Thor ") also occurs occasionally. The h did not find its way into the name until the 16th century.
