The community is located in the Elbe lowlands east of the Elbe and on the southern edge of the Annaburg Heath on the border with the State of Brandenburg . The neighboring cities are Belgern-Schildau (6 km), Falkenberg / Elster (10 km) and Torgau (12 km). The national highway 183 runs to the north of its territory by the districts and Kötten Elsterberg. Arzberg does not have its own rail connection. The closest station is Beilrode on the Halle – Cottbus railway line . In addition to the regional bus service, a citizen bus also connects the individual districts.

The places are mostly of Sorbian origin and were mostly mentioned in documents in the 13th century. The main town of Arzberg was first mentioned in 1251 as Arnsberk, Arnßberk , which means something like Adlerberg . The oldest district is Piestel , which was first mentioned in 1220 as allodium pezle, Pietele . On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Kathewitz, Kaucklitz and Nichtewitz were incorporated. On April 1, 1974, the municipality of Triestewitz was attached. Blumberg joined the company on July 1, 1993.
