Astraeus Airlines was a British airline based in Crawley and based at Gatwick Airport .
history
Astraeus Airlines was founded on March 21, 2002; flight operations began on April 6, 2002. The founders included former employees of the bankrupt British World Airlines . In December 2004, the first transatlantic flights were started with the Boeing 737-700 , which led from London to Newfoundland . On October 30, 2006, the Icelandic investment firm Fons Eignarhaldsfelag bought a 51% share of the property, which had meanwhile been increased to 100%.
In 2008, the company's own scheduled and charter flights were discontinued in favor of an increased offer of ACMI services and leasing offers for other airlines.
On November 22nd, 2011 it was announced that Astraeus is insolvent and has ceased operations with immediate effect.
