Bârzava (German: Bersowa , Hungarian: Marosborsa ) is a municipality in the Arad district , in the Kreischgebiet , in western Romania . The villages of Bătuța , Căpruța , Dumbrăvița , Groșii Noi , Lalașinț , Monoroștia and Slatina de Mureș also belong to the municipality of Bârzava .
Geographical location
Bârzava is located at the foot of the Zărand Mountains , on the National Road Drum național 7 , 61 km from the district capital Arad .

The first written mention of Bozova comes from 1471.
Over the centuries different spellings of the place name appeared: 1471 Bozova , 1479 Nagbozwa , 1506, 1510 Berzova , 1508–1510 Alsoborza , 1519 Also Bozwa , 1650 Bosowa , 1808 Berzava , 1839 Berzova , 1858–1900 Berzova , 1909 Bârzava , Berzova , 1910 Marosborsa , 1913 Marosborsa , 1921 Bârzava , Marosborsa , 1925 Bârzava .
Until the First Austrian Turkish War (1526), the settlement belonged to the Kingdom of Hungary and then to the Ottoman Empire (1526–1699).
After the Peace of Karlowitz (1699), Arad and the Maroscher Land came under Austrian rule , while the Banat south of the Marosch remained under Turkish rule until the Peace of Passarowitz (1718) . On the Josephine land survey is Bersowa entered.
As a result of the Austro-Hungarian Compromise (1867), the Arad region, like the whole of Banat and Transylvania, was annexed to the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian dual monarchy . The official place name was Marosborsa .
The Treaty of Trianon on June 4, 1920 resulted in the regulation of the borders , whereby Bârzava fell to the Kingdom of Romania .
