Bannes is a French commune with 135 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Lot department in the Occitanie region (before 2016: Midi-Pyrénées ). The municipality belongs to the Arrondissement of Figeac and the canton of Saint-Céré .
In the name of the community, the root ban- ( German point, tip ) is found in the Gallic language . This indicates that the village was founded on a prominent point in the landscape that rises to a point.
The inhabitants are called Bannois and Bannoises .

Bannes is located approximately 25 kilometers north-northwest of Figeac in the historic province of Quercy .

Bannes is located in the catchment area of the Dordogne river .
Tributaries of the Bave cross the territory of the municipality. The Biarque, also known as Ruisseau de Leyme, forms the natural border with the southern neighboring municipality of Molières. The Ruisseau de Mellac and its tributary, the Ruisseau de la Font-Gaillarde, arise in Bannes.
history
The decision to found the parish was made in 1660 and the church was built in 1664. There are no remains from the Middle Ages . However, Pastor Clary reported about sarcophagi from the Merovingian period in a place with the field name Saint-Cirq.
In the 18th century there were eight watermills in the area of today's municipality, the Moulin de Rey above the Ruisseau de la Font-Gaillarde and the Moulin de Saint-Cirq , Moulin d'Embiarque , Moulin de Pesteil , Moulin de Leydet and Moulin de la Ressègue over the Biarque. They were used to produce flour and nut oil, one was a fulling mill . Some of them ran until the middle of the 20th century.
According to a royal decree, Bannes was spun off into independence on June 25, 1843 by the municipality with the then name Saint-Vincent-Bannes. Since then the name contains two "n".

When they were released into self-employment, 640 people lived in the community. Since then the size of the community has decreased with short recovery periods.

Attractions
- Parish Church of Saint-Joseph , built in 1664, remodeled in the 19th century. The altarpiece from the 19th century, the tabernacle from the 17th century and a statue of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus from the 18th century have been inscribed as Monument historique since July 13, 1979 .
Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture is still the most important economic factor in the municipality, although the number of farms is decreasing from year to year. The cultivated land has become forest again to a certain extent.
