The current name of the community is derived from the Latin word angulus ( German  angle, corner ). This could have its origin that the first houses were built with triangular plots. In Occitan the name refers to a field at the corner of two crossing paths. In a text from 932 describing a donation from Viscount Flutard to the abbey in Beaulieu . Population development

After records began, the number of inhabitants rose to a peak of 830 by the middle of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to around 150 inhabitants by the first decade of the 21st century, with short recovery phases. A marked decrease in population can be attributed to the outsourcing of parts of the municipality in 1869. Recently there has been a period of moderate growth.

Parish Church of Saint Martin

Bell tower of the parish church of Saint-Martin

A priory of Benedictine is mentioned in 972 in Anglars than with the Abbey of Fons were combined, which was under the Abbey of Saint-Sauveur in Figeac. After the Hundred Years War , the priory was reduced to a simple fiefdom reserved for the monks of Fons.

The bell tower of the Romanesque church of the former priory still exists, which dates from the end of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. It is made of ashlar and has a massive appearance with buttresses at the corners and massive reinforcements on the three free-standing sides. The church was damaged towards the end of the Hundred Years War. She was set on fire and the top floor of the bell tower was destroyed. After renewed damage during the Huguenot Wars , large parts of it were rebuilt around 1620. The Corn and Turenne d'Aynac families were involved in this measure, which is confirmed by their family coat of arms on a keystone in the north aisle . The work was probably commissioned by Mercure II. De Corn, Seigneur of Anglars, and his second wife, Suzanne de Turenne d'Aynac. In the 18th century, the destroyed vaults of the nave and the choir were replaced by a ceiling and a gallery was built. The painted brickwork of the nave is signed and dated "Galtié J. 1954".

In addition to the current church, there may have been a castle on the hill in the past. The church consists of a main nave, which is flanked by two side chapels with a length of two bays , which serve as a side aisle. The first stones of the ribbed vault of unknown date of origin can still be seen on the walls of the main nave .

The bell tower has been classified as a Monument historique since February 3, 1930 .
