In the 19th century the place had a constant 800 inhabitants. As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , the number of inhabitants has since decreased continuously to the lowest level of the last decades.
economy
In the Haut-Quercy , agriculture was primarily self-sufficient , which also included viticulture until the 19th century, but which was almost completely abandoned after the phylloxera crisis . Today - in addition to cattle and poultry farming - tourism in the form of renting holiday apartments ( gîtes ) plays a major role in the economic life of the municipality.
history
In the 13th century Larnagol was disputed between the manors ( seigneuries ) of Cardaillac and Barasc . In the 14th century, the Puycornet family prevailed through marriage in the power struggles - Larnagol temporarily achieved the status of a vice-county ( vicomté ).
Attractions
- The Château de Larnagol stands in the middle of the village and originally dates from the 13th century; it was renewed in the 15th century. The current building is essentially the result of an 18th century restoration campaign. Medieval elements ( drawbridges , defense towers, etc.) are consequently not to be seen; instead, a terraced garden is impressive. The castle was recognized as a monument historique in 2001 . Parts of the interior decorations (wall paintings) are also protected.
- At the edges of the field there are stone huts ( caselles ) made of dry masonry .
- The local parish church was built in the 15th century. A small bell gable on the church tower comes from the Baroque period . The nave and the side chapels are vaulted with ribs .
