history

Until the church is planted

The principality of Ansbach and the von Geyern taverns shared the rulership rights . In 1796 Prussia sequestered Geyer's rights. In the Treaty of Paris (February 1806) with the Prussian Principality of Ansbach, Bergen fell to the Kingdom of Bavaria through exchange like other parts of Franconia . In the course of the administrative reforms in Bavaria, the municipality of Bergen was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

Community merger

The ties that had grown over the centuries led to the merger of the municipalities of Bergen, Geyern, Kaltenbuch and Thalmannsfeld to form the new municipality of Bergen , as part of the municipal reform that came into force on May 1, 1978.

Mountains

The town of Bergen was first mentioned in a document in 1067 when Bishop Gundekar II consecrated a St. George's Church. A Viereckschanze from the time around 500 BC. Chr. Geyern

On the north-western slope of the Franconian Jura , in the 130-inhabitant town of Geyern, is the ancestral seat of the von Geyern taverns, mentioned in 985 . The taverns originally come from Hofstetten , which is now in the Eichstätt district. They called themselves Lords of Hofstetten and were ministerials to the Bishop of Eichstätt . The first mention of Thalmannsfeld was in 1194 as "Thalmannsfelde". Walter Gloßner has been mayor since 2018. His predecessor was Werner Röttenbacher † (voter community) from 2002 to 2018. In 2002 he succeeded Willy Lehmeyer senior. Röttenbacher was confirmed as First Mayor in 2008 with over 94 percent of the vote, and in 2014 with 60.91%.

Economy and Infrastructure

From 1693 to 1864 ore was mined in the opencast mine, which the farmers brought to Eichstätt for smelting .

Bergen belongs to the distribution area of ​​the Jura house . A relatively large number of specimens of this type of house have survived in the municipality (see illustration), but some of them have been left to decay by owners willing to tear it down.

In the part of the municipality Thalmannsfeld, which has won multiple awards in the district competition, a change has begun in the course of the village renovation to preserve the historical village substance. In addition to the rock cellars, several private individual properties are now being renovated and preserved. In 2007 Thalmannsfeld received a silver medal at the state competition.

A historically based blacksmith's shop was set up in a residential stable, which was built around 1820/30 and was first mentioned around 1740 . In this museum, among other things, transmission-driven drilling, turning and milling machines as well as a spring drop hammer from the years 1895 to 1920 can be seen. Courses are offered in old craft techniques.
