Brożajcie ( German  Broszaitschen , 1938-1945 Brosen ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the rural community of Banie Mazurskie (Benkheim) in the powiat Gołdapski ( Goldap district ).

Geographical location

Brożajcie lies in a loop of the Angerapp ( Polish Węgorapa ) on the northern edge of the Skallischer Forst (also Altheider Forest, Polish Lasy Skaliskie ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . Here the Broszaitsche Canal ( Kanał Brożajcki in Polish ) flowing from Miczuły (Mitschullen , 1938–1945 Rochau) flows back into the Angerapp. The village is located 20 kilometers west of the district town of Gołdap (Goldap) and eleven kilometers south of the former district town of Darkehmen (1938–1945 Angerapp, Russian Osjorsk ), which is now on Russian territory .

history

The former Gutsdorf, called Uschkrysche around 1557, Uskrisay after 1558 , then Broszaitschen until 1938 , came to the Skallischen district before 1908 , which - renamed Altheide district in 1939 - existed until 1945 and became the Darkehmen district ( Angerapp district from 1939–1945 ) in the Gumbinnen district belonged to the Prussian province of East Prussia .

In 1910 the manor district of Broszaitschen had 44 inhabitants. On September 30, 1928, he was incorporated into the rural community of Skallischen (1938–1945 Altheide) , giving up his independence . Finally, on June 3 (officially confirmed on July 16) 1938, Broszaitschen was renamed Brosen .

In 1945, the place was in consequence of the war with the southern East Prussia to Poland and now bears the Polish name form Brożajcie . Today it is a small village in the rural community of Banie Mazurskie in the powiat Gołdapski , before 1998 of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .

Before 1945 Broszaitschen was parish in the Evangelical Church Szabienen / Schabienen ( Polish Żabin ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Catholic parish in Gołdap in the Diocese of Warmia . Today Brożajcie is part of the Catholic parish in Żabin in the Gołdap Dean's Office in the Diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland and the Evangelical Church in Gołdap, a branch church of Suwałki in the Masurian Diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
