Geographical location

Weissach im Tal lies at an altitude of 255 to 460 meters on the edge of the Swabian Forest in the Backnanger Bay northeast of Stuttgart . The municipality through which the Weißach flows is part of the natural areas of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains , Neckar Basin , Schurwald and Welzheimer Forest .

Community structure

The municipality of Weissach im Tal was created through the merger of the formerly independent municipalities of Bruch, Cottenweiler, Unterweissach and Oberweissach. There are eleven villages, hamlets, farms and houses in the municipality's territory. The village of Cottenweiler and the hamlet of Viehhaus belong to the former municipality of Cottenweiler. In addition to the village of the same name, the hamlets of Aichholzhof, Mitteldresselhof, Oberdresselhof and Unterdresselhof and the Seemühle residential area belong to the former community of Unterweissach. In addition to the village, the hamlets Kammerhof and Wattenweiler belong to the former municipality of Oberweissach. Viehhaus and Aichholzhof form a structural unit.

history

The Weissacher Valley was probably settled in the 8th century. Weissach was first mentioned as Wizzaha in a deed of donation from 1027, with which Konrad II gave Wald um Murrhardt to the Würzburg bishop . Unterweissach and Oberweissach were first mentioned in 1245 on the occasion of a donation from Pope Innocent IV to Backnang Abbey.

The places in the area of ​​the municipality Weissach im Tal all came to the county or the Duchy of Württemberg at the latest towards the end of the Middle Ages . From 1806 to 1918 they were part of the Kingdom of Württemberg and, since 1918, of the free state of Württemberg . Administratively, the places were the chief official Backnang assumed that by the territorial reforms during the Nazi era in Württemberg Backnang in 1934 in county renamed in 1938 in the extended Backnang district opened. Since the places had become part of the American zone of occupation after the Second World War , they belonged to the newly founded state of Württemberg-Baden from 1945 to 1952 . In 1952 the predecessor communities of Weissach im Tal came to what is now the state of Baden-Württemberg.

The entire community of Weissach im Tal was created on July 1, 1971 as part of the community reform in Baden-Württemberg through the voluntary merger of the four previously independent communities of Bruch, Cottenweiler, Unterweissach and Oberweissach. In 1973, the new municipality went from the dissolved district of Backnang to the Rems-Murr district due to the district reform in Baden-Württemberg .

A fire broke out in a planned refugee accommodation on the night of 23/24 August 2015; the building was largely destroyed in the process. The police cannot rule out that it was an attack.

Church buildings

A church in Unterweissach is first attested in 1468. Saint Agatha is named as the church patron in 1542. The church was the mother church for the entire area. The individual places were later separated step by step from Unterweissach and raised to separate parishes or parishes or affiliated to other parishes. The Protestant Church of St. Agatha in Unterweissach, a Gothic choir tower church, has a small cross-rib vaulted choir, in which, in addition to tombs, only the baptismal font and historical choir stalls stand. After 1500 and especially in 1721 the nave was enlarged to a transverse church , the benches and the three-sided gallery, offset laterally in relation to the tower choir, oriented towards the altar and pulpit. The altar cross dates from the 2nd half of the 17th century.

Educational institutions

The Weissacher Tal education center in the Cottenweiler district consists of a technical secondary school, a secondary school and a grammar school. There is a primary school each in the districts of Unterweissach and Oberweissach .

Sports

The SV Unterweissach soccer team rose to the regional league after the regional league championship in the 2008/2009 season. The class could not be held, however, it followed the immediate relegation to the district league. After relegation to the district league A in 2014, they became champions in the district league A2 in the 2014/15 season and rose again to the district league. SV Unterweissach plays its home games in the “Auf der Hart” stadium. The most famous former player of the club is Julian Schieber , who played here as a youth player. Other well-known former actors and members are Fabian Aupperle , Ralf Rangnick and Markus Sailer . The largest sports club in Weissach in terms of number of members is the Weissach im Tal sports association with the departments handball, shooting, dance, table tennis, gymnastics and volleyball.

Weissach im Tal was the winner of the nationwide competition "Sustainable Commune" in 2002 and 2004.

In April 2008, the community was awarded the "Democracy Rose" by the association " Mehr Demokratie " for its positive handling of petitions based on the conflict over the development of the so-called "Ochsen Area" in the center of Unterweissach.
