The Chevrolet Series F was a mid- size car that was only built by Chevrolet in the USA in model year 1917 as the successor to the Series H. It was replaced by the Series FA in 1918, and from 1919 to 1922 the cars were called Series FB .

The car was equipped with an overhead controlled four-cylinder in-line engine (OHV) which developed an output of 24 bhp (17.6 kW) with a displacement of 2802 cm 3 . The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a cone clutch, a manual three-speed gearbox and a cardan shaft. The rear wheels were equipped with external band brakes.

Two bodies were available, a 2-seater roadster with 2 doors ( model F-2, “Royal Mail” ) and a 5-seater tourer with 4 doors ( model F-5 “Baby Grand” ). The nicknames were taken over from the predecessors. Both models were available for US $ 800. In the only year of production 3,493 pieces were made.

In the 1918 model year, the FA series replaced the F. In terms of appearance and technology, little had changed. Open models had a 15 ° inclined towards the rear windshield, and there were a larger motor with 3671 cm 3 capacity and 37 hp (27 kW) at 2000 min -1 installed.

In addition to the roadster ( model FA-2 ) and the tourer ( model FA-5 ) there was also a 4-seater all-weather sedan with a closed body and 2 doors ( model FA-4 ). The open versions cost US $ 935, while the sedan cost US $ 1475. 11,403 copies were made from the FA series.

In the 1919 model year, the FA series was renamed the FB series. Initially, 1514 pieces of the 2-door FA sedans were built under the name FB-40 . The other vehicles of the FB series had a chassis with a 2794 mm wheelbase. These were a 2-seat roadster with 2 doors ( model FB-20 ), a 3-seat coupe with 2 doors ( model FB-30 ), a 4-seat sedan with 4 doors ( model FB-40 ) and a 5- seated tourer with 4 doors ( model FB-50 ). The engine, drive and brakes remained the same. The sales prices were between US $ 1110 and US $ 1685.

In 1920 the styling was revised. Like the cheaper models of the 490 series , the FB received curved lines in the area of ​​the bulkhead. With these changes, the models were manufactured until 1922. Last year the prices dropped to US $ 865 to US $ 1,395.

A total of 74,140 FB series vehicles were built in four years. In 1923 the series was discontinued without replacement.
