In an Opel Commodore GS, Chris Tuerlinx and Henri Greder achieved fifth place in the 24-hour race at Spa-Francorchamps in 1968

Chris Tuerlinx , in some publications also Chris Tuerlinckx , (* 1940 ; † May 7, 1973 in Herentals ) was a Belgian racing driver .

Racing career

Chris Tuerlinckx ran a General Motors contract workshop in Herentals and was active in rally , touring and sports car racing in the 1960s and 1970s . He became famous for his work in Chevrolet racing vehicles . He drove his first rallies in an Opel Kapitän , with which he competed in Belgium for several years. He had his first international appearance in 1964 when he finished 24th overall in an Opel Kadett in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race . His best place in the 24-hour race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps was 4th overall in 1966 , with partner Pat Gautot in a Ford Mustang . In 1968 he finished the race in 5th place in the final ranking. This time the Frenchman Henri Greder was the team partner and the emergency vehicle was an Opel Commodore .

1967 he went along with Claude Dubois at the 24-hour race at Le Mans at the start. After a valve failure on the Shelby Mustang GT350 , the duo couldn't finish the race. Chris Tuerlinx had a fatal accident in a car accident in Herentals on May 7, 1973, one day after the 1000 km race at Spa-Francorchamps , in which he was registered but not started.
