Attractions

  • The fortified church was built in 1498 by the master builder Andreas Lapicida - a stone mason from Sibiu - on the river Zibin. A curtain wall was added in the 16th century as the Turks repeatedly devastated the country. The old gate tower was undermined by the adjacent river and later replaced by a new one. Due to its close proximity to the district capital, the Großau fortified church is a popular destination for visitors to Sibiu. The church is a listed building.
  • The Romanian Orthodox Church Buna Vestire ( Annunciation ), built in 1790, is a listed building.
  • Village museum

Personalities

  • Andreas Wolf (1741–1812), physician and scholar in the Moldau
