Daniel Steven "Dan" Smith (born February 23, 1989 in Manalapan , New Jersey ) is a professional American poker player .

Smith is considered to be one of the best tournament players in the world. He has earned more than US $ 36.5 million in live poker tournaments , making him the fifth most successful poker player by tournament prize money . From August 27 to December 23, 2014, Smith topped the Global Poker Index (GPI), the world's poker ranking, for 17 consecutive weeks . This set the record for Jason Mercier , who had led the GPI for so long from May 13th to September 10th, 2013. This record is now held by Alex Foxen . In total, Smith was ranked number one for 39 weeks .
