Danny Ecker (actually: Daniel Ecker ; born July 21, 1977 in Leverkusen ) is a former German pole vaulter . The three-time Olympic participant is the German record holder in the hall with a jump of 6.00 m.
Life
Career
Danny Ecker has been racing for TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen since 1987 . At a height of 1.92 m, he had a competition weight of 82 kg.
In 2007 Ecker won his only international title: In the winter season he was European indoor champion in Birmingham . His greatest success followed in September when he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Osaka with a jump of 5.81 m. In 2007, he became the DLV - athletes elected this year. His best performances are 6.00 m indoors (German indoor record, 2001) and 5.93 m outdoors (German junior record, 1998).
In his third appearance in the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing , he reached despite massive problems at the Achilles tendon at the start of the season ranked 6th in 2009 he was again m German champion in the hall with 5.80.
In 2012 his goal was to take part in the Olympic Games in London . But already at the German championships he could no longer start because he sustained a flexor injury in June and then decided to say goodbye to competitive sport as a pole vaulter.
Private
Ecker grew up in Leverkusen and is the son of John Ecker , a former basketball player , and the double Olympic champion Heide Ecker-Rosendahl . His grandfather Heinz Rosendahl was a multiple German champion in discus throwing. He has been married since 2006, has two children and studied business administration at the University of Hagen . He works in corporate credit management at Bayer AG.

In 2004 and 2005 he took first place at TV total high diving in synchronized diving with Lars Börgeling . In 2007 the two took part in the TV show again and achieved second place.
In February 2016, Ecker and other former world-class athletes took part in the VOX TV station's Eternal Heroes show .
In 2019 he was runner-up behind Sascha Klein in the celebrity special of the trampoline show Big Bounce .
