The Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights (only Advent Festival until 2010 ) is a television broadcast by ARD and Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR), which has been moderated by Florian Silbereisen since 2004 and presented live from the Suhl Congress Center (with the exception of 2005 in Cottbus ). The opening of the Christmas market is celebrated in the broadcast . It will be broadcast on ARD and ORF2 the day before the first Advent . The peace light has been passed on every year since 2009 until 100,000 lights are on in the program. Since November 26, 2011, the program has been entitled The Advent Festival of 100,000 Lights, in keeping with tradition .

From 1995 to 2003 there was only the Christmas festival around Christmas , from 2004 the Advent festival was added for the first time . In 2006 and 2008 the annual Advent festival was canceled . At the Advent festival , stars of pop and hit music present national and international Christmas carols in a Christmas-changing setting.

Since November 2009 an Advent story has been read out by an actor or presenter every year . Previous speakers have been Barbara Wussow (2009), Tom Mandl (2010), Siegfried Rauch (2011), Senta Berger (2012), Marianne Sägebrecht (2013, 2019), Christiane Hörbiger (2014), Ruth Maria Kubitschek (2015), Mario Adorf (2016), Hannelore Elsner (2017) and Michelle Hunziker (2018).
