The Delage Type 2 LCV was a racing car from the French brand Delage .

description

The national registration authority tested the vehicle with chassis number 1 and engine number 1 and granted approval on June 28, 1923. The improved versions for 1924 and 1925 did not receive their own type approval. Delage used the model from 1923 to 1926. The predecessor was the Delage Type 2 LS . Production ended in 1925. The Delage Type 15 S 8 followed in 1926 .

A twelve-cylinder engine powered the vehicles. In the first year it had a 51.4 mm bore and 80 mm stroke . That resulted in 1992 cc displacement and 16  Cheval fiscal . The engine developed 95  hp (70 kW). The designer was Charles Planchon. Albert Lory helped with this.

The 1924 version had a 51.3 mm bore and 1984 cc displacement. It developed either 105 or 120 hp (77 or 88 kW). Planchon and Albert Lory were in charge of the engine.

In 1925 Lory was the sole designer of the engine. He used two Roots - compressors to improve performance with which the motor 205 hp (151 kW) made.

The car initially had a track width of 1250 mm and a wheelbase of 2600 mm . Both axes were rigid and guided on leaf springs. The curb weight was 650 kg or 689 kg. In 1924 the track width was widened to 1300 mm at the front, but reduced to 1200 mm at the rear.

The top speed increased from year to year from an initial 186 km / h to around 190 km / h to 222 km / h.

Only one vehicle of the first version was built. In the two following years there were four each. That makes a total of nine.

Races

On July 2, 1923, René Thomas took part in the 1923 French Grand Prix in Tours with the mechanic Lhermitte , but was canceled. There were problems with the engine overheating.

On August 3, 1924, the French Grand Prix 1924 took place in Lyon . Albert Divo , who received support from Henri Frètet either as a mechanic or as a driver, came second, Robert Benoist with the mechanic Carra third and Thomas with the mechanic Lhermitte sixth. At the Gran Premio de San Sebastián on September 27, 1924, André Morel came third and Divo fourth.

At the Belgian Grand Prix in 1925 on June 28, 1925, Divo, Thomas, Paul Torchy and Benoist all retired. The French Grand Prix in 1925 on July 26, 1925 was won by the Benoist / Divo team ahead of Louis Wagner / Torchy, while Divo failed. At the Gran Premio de San Sebastián on September 19, 1925 brought a triple victory for Delage. Divo won ahead of Benoist and Thomas. Torchy had a fatal accident.

The Targa Florio took place on April 25, 1926 . Giulio Masetti had a fatal accident. Benoist, Divo and Thomas then withdrew from the race. On July 25, 1926, this model was last used in racing at the 1926 Spanish Grand Prix . Wagner / Benoist finished third, while Morel and Wagner were eliminated.
