The Division 2 1935/36 was the third staging of the second highest French football league , officially under the name Championnat de Division 2 firmierte. Second division champions were the FC Rouen .
The games took place between August 17, 1935 and June 14, 1936. There was no winter break, rather point games were played between the years.
societies
The ten clubs that had not been promoted to the first division or given up their professional status after the previous season were eligible to participate . There were also two first division relegated teams, of which SC Nîmes decided before the start of the season to return their license and continue playing in the amateur field, as well as seven newcomers who had assumed professional status for the first time.
The following 18 teams were represented this season:
- six clubs from the far north ( Racing Roubaix , Racing Lens , Racing Calais , AC Amiens and the newcomers US Boulogne and Olympique Dunkerque ),
- four from Paris and Champagne-Ardenne ( CA Paris and the newcomers Stade Reims , AS Troyes-Savinienne and FC Olympique Charleville ),
- one from the northeast (newcomer FC Nancy ),
- three from the northwest ( Le Havre AC , FC Rouen , SM Caen ),
- two from Lyonnais ( AS Saint-Étienne , AS Villeurbanne ),
- two from the Mediterranean region (relegated SO Montpellier , newcomer OGC Nice ).
There was only a direct promotion and relegation depending on the sporting result between the first and second professional division. On the other hand, a second division could only be relegated if he surrendered his license or if it was revoked, and previous amateur teams from Division d'Honneur could only be promoted to Division 2 for the following season if they received approval from the association , professional To adopt status.
Season course
Each team played a return match against each group opponent, once in front of their own audience and once away. The two-point rule applied ; in the event of a tie, the goal difference was decisive for the placement. In France, when specifying the point ratio, only the number of plus points is given; here this is done in the notation used in Germany at the time of the 2-point rule.
After two unsuccessful attempts, the “Red Devils” from Rouen prevailed in an impressive manner this season. They led the table from the first to the last day of the game, which a certain slackening in the last laps of the back series did not change, which shrunk the lead over fellow promoted Roubaix to two points. Rouen had the best defense of Division 2 and above all had a so-called "bomb storm" (French: attaque mitrailleuse ), which scored 119 hits - almost half (50) of them in the opposing stadiums. Of these, 95 had the "return address" of the four most successful attackers Jean Nicolas - he won the top scorer's crown for the third time in a row - Roger Rio , Marceau Lhermine and the Austrian Karl Durspekt . Roubaix and Saint-Étienne also came very close to the 100-goal mark; between these two equal points, the goal difference was the decisive factor in the end - to the detriment of AS Saint-Étienne, which was the only second division team to remain unbeaten in front of their own audience and still missed promotion by a hair's breadth.
The most successful of the newcomers to the professional business was the previous year's French amateur champion from Reims - the one position better placed OGC Nice had only "paused" for one season in the amateur camp - under his Scottish trainer William Aitken . On the other hand, Nancy had been in last place from the first match day and remained without any away win for the entire season (like Villeurbanne). At least for neutral observers, however, the Lorraine games were spectacular because they scored an average of 4.6 goals - albeit mostly for Nancy's opponents; this was the highest value of all 18 participants. Another newcomer made a name for itself in this year's national cup competition : Charleville reached the final and only just lost it.
Villeurbanne, however, was after 28 matchdays still on the 14th place in the table; their last game played the team on March 29, 1936, in which they conceded a 2-6 home defeat to Saint-Étienne. Then this syndicate withdrew from AS Villeurbanne and FC Lyon from gaming operations. Unlike in comparable cases from previous years, not all previous results were canceled, but the association rated the ten point games that were subsequently no longer played with 3-0 goals for the opponent. He also put Villeurbanne (15 plus points) in the table behind Nancy (only 11 plus points) on the bottom of the table.
For the following season , the 15 clubs on the table ranks three to 17 got their license renewed; in addition came the two first division relegated US Valenciennes-Anzin and Olympique Alès . For the first time there were no neoprofis, so Division 2 started with only 17 participants.
In the 296 matches actually played, 1,131 hits were scored; this corresponds to an average of 3.8 goals per game and was by far the weakest value in the previous seasons of Division 2 .
