history

The so-called tree garden near Dorna has been settled at least since the time of the linear ceramic culture around 7000 years ago; Over many years, and especially during the development of the new building area Am Baumgarten , archaeologists were able to recover valuable archaeological finds such as clay jugs, squeeze mills and field stone tools. It can be considered certain that one of the first arable farming settlements in the region existed here. The finds are now in the Gera City Museum and in the Weimar Museum of Early History . The Dornaer Schanze, north-west of today's town on a mountain ledge north of the Brahmetal and east of the Negisbach, was in the early days a hill fort with a ski jumping facility and a tower hill. The castle hill is still preserved.

Dorna is first mentioned in a document on September 7, 1328 in a gift from the Vogt von Gera; a Konrad von Berga, pastor of Dorna, testifies to this act.

In 1864, Negis, Cretzschwitz , Kulm, Seelingstädt as well as the subsidiary churches Zschippach and Groitzschen with Caasen belonged to the Reussian Protestant parish of Dorna . Until it was closed in 1970, Dorna was the school location for several surrounding communities for around 450 years.

Until the reorganization of the Thuringian Lands in 1918, Dorna was a divided village, i. H. a smaller part with four houses and at that time 60 residents on an area of 0.45 ha belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg , the larger part to the Principality of Reuss younger line . On October 1, 1922, both parts were combined.

On July 1, 1950, Dorna and Negis were incorporated into the municipality of Röpsen. On July 1, 1994, Röpsen was incorporated into Gera.

Most of the agricultural land around the village is now leased, and only a few farms work as a sideline. In the 1990s, a well-developed new building area was designated.

Dorna manor

In 1415 the Dorna manor was first documented. In 1827 the place had a manor, 30 houses and 117 inhabitants. For 1870 the manor, 10 courtyards, 41 houses, the Turkish and Dorna mill, a brickworks and two inns with 285 inhabitants are mentioned. Of these, 3 houses belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Altenburg . The manor was owned by the von Schauroth family for over 200 years . The manor had patrimonial jurisdiction over the place until 1855 . In the 19th century the manor belonged to Johann Gottfried Gladitsch and from 1826 to his son, the member of the state parliament and bank director Hermann Gladitsch .

After 1945 the manor became a people's own property and belonged to VEG Aga until 1990 .

Attractions

The place is still today in its Sorbian round shape with only one local entrance and with farmsteads grouped around the village square in the shape of a horseshoe.

The St. Peter's Church , built on a hill outside the original village in the middle of the 13th century, is the oldest church in the Brahmetal . It is considered the mother church of the surrounding parishes, from where eleven places were once looked after. Today there is a high need for renovation, which can currently only be met insufficiently with donations from citizens.

In the center of Dorna you can find the remains of the old manor .

Above the village is the Dornaer Schanze , remnants of a castle from the early Middle Ages.

politics

The mayor of the district has been Wolfgang Hartick (independent) since 2004.
