The article contains a detailed description of the Ecuadorian national soccer team for women at world championships . Ecuador was able to qualify for the 2015 World Cup finals for the first time in 2014, but was eliminated after the preliminary round without winning a point. After Brazil , Argentina and Colombia, Ecuador is the fourth South American women's team to take part in a women's World Cup. After three defeats in the preliminary round, Ecuador was in penultimate place ahead of Argentina in the all-time table. Since Argentina won two points in 2019 and the newcomers also did better than Ecuador in 2015, Ecuador is now 36th and last.

World Cup 1991 in the People's Republic of China

The Ecuadorians did not take part in the Sudamericano Femenino 1991 , which served as a qualification for the first women's World Cup. Only Brazil was able to qualify as a representative of South America and was the only South American team at the women's World Cup up to and including 1999.

World Cup 1995 in Sweden

The Ecuadorians took part for the first time at the Sudamericano Femenino 1995 , which served as a qualification for the second women's World Cup. On January 8, 1995, they played their first country and World Cup qualifier against Brazil in Minas Gerais and lost 0:13 - their biggest defeat to date. This was followed by a 1: 5 against Argentina and a 2: 2 against Chile . With a 6-1 win against Bolivia , Ecuador finished fourth. This meant that Ecuador was unable to take part in the first women's football tournament at the 1996 Olympic Games , as only the eight best teams from the World Cup could qualify for it. Brazil as the ninth-best team benefited from the fact that England, as the seventh-best team, was not eligible to start at the Olympic Games, so that a South American team also took part in Atlanta .

World Cup 1999 in the USA

All 10 CONMEBOL members registered for the third world championship and the South American championship, which again serves as a qualification . The championship was therefore played in two groups in Argentina . Ecuador met Uruguay (2: 2), Bolivia (5: 2), Paraguay (3: 0) and Argentina (0: 2). As second in the preliminary round, Ecuador was in the semi-finals and faced defending champions Brazil. The 1:11 is one of the highest semi-final defeats in a continental tournament. 2003 World Cup in the USA

This was the second time that the World Cup took place in the USA. In the qualification , which was played again as Sudamericano Femenino in 2003 , Ecuador first had to face Venezuela and Colombia . After a 2-0 win against Venezuela, a 1-1 draw against Colombia was not enough to reach the finals due to the fewer goals scored. As before, Brazil qualified again, with Argentina for the first time as a second South American team.

World Cup 2007 in the People's Republic of China

Four years later the World Cup took place in the People's Republic of China for the second time . In the Sudamericano Femenino 2006 , which again served as a qualification , the 10 CONMEBOL members initially played four teams in two groups of five for the final round. Ecuador initially met Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay and Chile. Ecuador started with a 2-1 win against Chile, but then lost 1-0 against Argentina. World Cup 2011 in Germany

For the last time the Ecuadorians could not qualify for the World Cup in Germany . At the Sudamericano Femenino 2010 , which was hosted by Ecuador and where all games took place in venues between 2,000 and 2,850 m above sea level, Ecuador could not use the home advantage. In the group stage, the team only finished third behind the tied Chileans and Argentines due to the worse goal difference. The decisive factor was that the three victories only ever achieved one more goal: 2-1 against Peru, 4-3 against Bolivia and 1-0 against Argentina. Chile and Argentina, on the other hand, always won against Bolivia and Peru by at least two goals. The semifinals, the World Cup and the 2012 Olympic Games were missed again. Chile and Argentina were only third and fourth behind Brazil and Colombia in the final round, so that Colombia got the second World Cup ticket instead of Argentina.

For the third World Cup in North America, the number of participants was increased to 24 and a third South American team now had the chance to qualify for the World Cup in Pan-American playoffs against a CONCACAF representative. Ecuador used this detour. At the Sudamericano Femenino 2014 , which again served as a qualification for the World Cup and took place again in Ecuador, the Ecuadorians finished in the group stage with two 1-0 victories against Peru and Venezuela despite the two defeats against Colombia (0-1) and Uruguay (1: 2) due to the better goal difference before Uruguay 2nd place. In the final round, the first game against defending champions Brazil was lost 4-0 and a defeat against Colombia followed (1: 2). That put Ecuador in last place before the last game against Argentina. Argentina needed a win against Ecuador with a simultaneous defeat of Colombia against Brazil to qualify directly for the World Cup, a draw was enough to at least reach the Pan-American playoffs. In the second leg in Port of Spain at almost sea ​​level , Ecuador managed to qualify as the last team for the World Cup thanks to a last-minute goal by Mónica Quinteros in the last game of the World Cup qualifying. This makes Ecuador the fourth team from South America to take part in the women's World Cup.

When the groups were drawn, Ecuador was not seeded and was "drawn" into the group with defending champion Japan . Other opponents were the teams from Cameroon and Switzerland , who also qualified for the first time . No team in this group had previously played against any of the other teams. Ecuador lost all three games and were eliminated from the bottom of the group.

World Cup 2019 in France

For the third World Cup in Europe, two South American teams were able to qualify directly and one in Pan-American playoffs against a CONCACAF representative. But Ecuador failed already in the preliminary round of the 2018 South American Women's Soccer Championship , which again served as a qualification for the World Cup.
