European film award / best camera

Winner and nominee of the European Film Award in the category Best Cinematography (Carlo Di Palma European Cinematographer Award) since it was first presented in 1988 (at the time as a Special Aspect Award ). Since the award ceremony in 2008, the category has been dedicated to the Italian cameraman Carlo Di Palma , who died in 2004 . In the years 1993 to 1996 no award was given, while since 2013 the prize has been awarded by a jury of experts as the "Excellence Award" without announcing any nominations.

British cameramen have been the most successful so far with four wins, followed by their colleagues from France and Italy (3 wins each). The Danish Camilla Hjelm Knudsen ( Unter dem Sand - The Promise of Freedom ) was the first camerawoman to join the list of winners in 2016 .
