The U23 play in Division 1 of the Professional U23 Development League, the highest U23 football league in England. They became champions in the 2013-14 season. The team consists mainly of Chelsea FC U23 players, although older players do play occasionally, for example when a player needs to recover from an injury. The U23 team is trained by Adrian Viveash.

The U18 is a member of the Professional U18 Development League. She won the FA Youth Cup in 1960, 1961, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016, and finished as a champion in 1958, 2008 and 2013. The youth team is coached by Joe Edwards. The academy is considered one of the best in English football and has produced many successful players such as the brothers Ron and Allan Harris, Peter Bonetti, Bobby Tambling, Barry Bridges, Bert Murray, John Hollins, Peter Osgood , Ray Wilkins , Graeme Le Saux, Bobby Smith, Terry Venables, Jimmy Greaves , John Terry, and more (see “Notable Graduates from the Academy”).

Neil Bath is the Head of Youth Development in charge of the day-to-day running of the Academy, along with Michael Emenalo, the current Technical Director, who has been sponsored by the Assistant First Team Coach and is largely responsible for researching and recruiting new players around the world .

The U23 team has played their home games at the Recreation Ground since the 2013–2014 season. The U18 team play their home games at the Cobham Training Center in Cobham, Surrey. Both teams occasionally use the club's home ground, Stamford Bridge, for important games, for example in the final of the FA Youth Cup.
