The University of South Westphalia , based in Iserlohn and other locations in Hagen , Meschede and Soest and the study Lüdenscheid is an engineering science, information technology and business administration and agricultural Farming College . With over 12,000 students in the 2019/2020 winter semester, it is one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany.
history
The historically oldest forerunner of the technical college was the trade school in Hagen founded by the Prussian reformist Beuth on December 1, 1824 to qualify for the Berlin Royal Technical Institute , which later became the state engineering school for mechanical and electrical engineering and then the Märkische technical college based in Iserlohn and the two sites in Iserlohn and Hagen.
The University of Applied Sciences was established on January 1, 2002, when the comprehensive universities were dissolved in the course of the university reorganization in North Rhine-Westphalia and the Märkische Fachhochschule was merged with the Meschede and Soest departments of the former Paderborn University as equal partners. The Iserlohn location was chosen as the headquarters of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences.
Michael Teusner was the founding rector from January 1, 2002 to August 31, 2004. From September 1, 2004 until the end of 2008, Jörg Liese was rector of the university. On December 9, 2008, Claus Schuster was elected by the University Council as the first President of the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences, confirmed by the University's Senate. Following a reform by the Senate, the university management was renamed the rectorate again and Claus Schuster was elected rector of the university on December 9, 2014.

Financial
A so-called "social contribution" is levied from all enrolled students on the basis of Section 11 of the Student Union Act, which is paid to the student unions for their tasks. The student body also collects a contribution from its members for tasks of student self-administration. According to Section 57 of the University Act, the student body's contributions are set out in a separate fee schedule. In addition, there is a fee for the semester ticket for students from the Hagen, Iserlohn and Soest locations.
