Florence Bell (athlete)

Florence Isabel "Jane" Bell (born June 2, 1910 in Toronto , Ontario , † July 1, 1998 in Fort Myers , Florida ) was a Canadian athlete and Olympic champion .

With Fanny Rosenfeld , Jean Thompson , Ethel Smith , Myrtle Cook and Ethel Catherwood at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, Bell was one of those The Matchless Six, initially ridiculed by the press . At the end of the games, however, it turned out that the six women of the Canadian Olympic team had won the most medals for their country, even more than the men.
