The 2020/21 season of the Lower Saxony Oberliga will be the 74th season of the Lower Saxony Football League and the thirteenth as the fifth-highest division in Germany.
For the first time since the 2010/11 season , 20 clubs are taking part in the game.
On an extraordinary NFV association day on June 27th, the final decision was made on the evaluation of the previous season . Due to the different number of games played from the league downwards, accounting using a quotient rule (number of points scored divided by number of games played) was used. In addition, there were no relegations to or from the Lower Saxony Oberliga, for the 2020/21 season the respective quotient winners per season were allowed to rise.

As in the Regionalliga Nord , the 20 participants were divided into two groups - Weser-Ems / Lüneburg and Hanover / Braunschweig - taking into account their geographical proximity. Within the group, everyone plays against each other with a return game, so that both groups have played 90 games each at the end. The best five teams from both groups then move into the championship round, the worst five into the relegation round.
