Soccer World Cup 2010 / Slovakia
qualification
The Slovak team qualified as group winners of Group 3 for the World Cup in South Africa through the qualifying matches of the European football association UEFA, and in 2010 they took part in a World Cup finals for the first time.
In the first round of qualification, Slovakia faced Slovenia , the Czech Republic , Northern Ireland , Poland and San Marino . Slovakia won seven of the ten games. One match ended in a draw, the team lost two more games.
Group opponents San Marino, who conceded 47 goals in ten games and finished last, scored their only goal of the entire qualification in their 3-1 defeat against Slovakia.

In the preliminary round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the Slovak national soccer team met in Group F against Italy , Paraguay and New Zealand . After they had to accept the equalizer in stoppage time in the opening game against New Zealand and lost to Paraguay, the return flight home was already booked. With a sensational victory against defending champion and group favorite Italy, they made it to second place and thus to the round of 16.
