Gloria von Thurn und Taxis is the second of four children of Joachim Graf von Schönburg-Glauchau (1929–1998) and his first wife Beatrix Széchenyi de Sárvár-Felsövidék (* 1930). Her father was a journalist and worked as a foreign correspondent for a radio station . When he received the offer to go to Africa, he took his wife and two daughters with him.
