Grüntal , partly also Grünthal , has been part of the formerly independent municipality of Sundwig since the Prussian territorial reforms in 1929 and has been part of the town of Hemer in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1936 .
Grüntal is located in the north of the Stephanopeler valley between the villages Wenhagen and Dieken in the north and Sundwigerbach in the south. The settlement lies along the K 32 and the Sundwiger Bach , which flows on its way through Sundwig, Hemer and Becke and flows into the Hönne as an Oese in Menden .
In 1829 the von Hch family settled here in the valley. Grüntal paper mill founded by the Becke . This was in operation until a fire in 1850. After that, the buildings were used as a screw and wire factory. At times it was also used as a wire drawing shop.
Today Grüntal is a pure residential area without any economic facilities. The settlement is located within a forest area that was destroyed by the hurricane "Kyrill" .
