The Hafenlohr near Windheim |
The Hafenlohr is a 26.5 km (with Tiergartenbach 27.7 km) long, right tributary of the Main in the districts of Aschaffenburg and Main-Spessart in the Bavarian Spessart .
Surname
The defining word of the compound Hafenlohr goes back to the Middle High German Havenaere , which means Hafner ( potter ). The origin of the basic word Lohr is the same as for the nearby river Lohr . The municipality of Hafenlohr takes its name from the river Hafenlohr .
geography
Sources of the harbor ear
The Hafenlohr arises from two sources in the municipality of Rothenbuch . The longer and at times richer source branch is the Tiergartenbach , which often dries up on dry days. Officially, it is viewed as the upper course of the Hafenlohr main stream. The origin in the middle of the village, named as Hafenlohrquelle, gives water almost all year round.
Hafenlohrquelle
The Hafenlohrquelle is located at Rothenbuch Castle. It was set in sandstone in the course of the road widening of the St 2317 . Its water flows through the castle moat northwest and flows about a hundred meters from the left side into the bed of the 1.3 km long Tiergartenbach, which comes from the Tiergartengrund on the northern edge of the village . It does not provide water all year round, but at times more than the perennial spring at the castle.
The spring at the castle used to be a meeting place for hunting in the eastern Spessart, which is why the construction of a hunting lodge began here in 1342 . The castle moat and some of the surrounding trout lakes that no longer exist today were fed with the rising spring water.
course
After the confluence of the source streams, the Hafenlohr continues in the south-eastern direction already taken by the Tiergartenbach. About 3 km east of Weibersbrunn in the Hochspessart it is reinforced at the Ahlmichdamm from the right of the Steinbach . The Hafenlohr runs east-northeast through a deeply cut valley, the bottom of which is occupied by the Hafenlohrtal nature reserve . There are no larger settlements here, which gives hikers peace and quiet. West of Lichtenau , at the small Eichensee in the side valley mouth, the Mäusbach, which comes from the north-northwest, flows to the left. The Hafenlohr then runs in the deeply cut valley through the Lichtenauer Grund , flows past several small ponds and then reaches the Mainzer Eck nature reserve , from where the valley begins to meander. The mountain Klosterkuppel ( 552 m above sea level ) prevents the Hafenlohr from continuing on its eastern course and it turns permanently to the southeast near Erlenfurt .
Several state and princely forest houses then line the bank, initially the Old and New Diana . Passing Einsiedel , the Hafenlohr reaches the Lindenfurterhof , first moving south and then south-east , from which the valley is now more stretched. Below it, just before the road bridge, there is a remarkable aqueduct . Then she passes the Breitfurt gatehouse . It continues downwards through a romantic , natural valley that is bordered in the southwest by the non-community area of Fürstlich Löwensteinscher Park . On the right on the plateau lies the Karlshöhe , 449 m above sea level. Flat mountain top reaching NN , on which there is an excursion restaurant and a hunting lodge. Next talab follow the Forsthaus Prince Bridge and Hubertus , formerly railway bridge mill welcomed where the Jugendzeltplatz Windheim is the district Main-Spessart.
Here the Wachenbach , also called Wagenbach , flows from the right and from the southwest , its largest tributary by far. It then runs past several small ponds fed by it for a short distance parallel to Hafenlohrtalstrasse , crosses the village of Windheim in a conspicuous valley widening and then flows past the left side of the low, isolated Achtelsberg ( 235 m above sea level ), the Umlaufberg is a former Main loop. The remaining course of the Hafenlohr uses the tapering part of the old loop of the valley, it passes the Große Au and flows past a few small ponds, then through the Kleine Au , now on both sides between parts of the settlement of Hafenlohr . There it crosses under the main street of the village, which runs along the great river and then flows into the Main on the eastern edge of the village from the right and, last of all, in an easterly direction .
